Vineyards:
Madrona Ranch - Madrona
Ranch is located in the St. Helena appellation at the base of
Spring Mountain. At the base of the ranch, Cabernet Sauvignon
and Cabernet Franc were planted in 1980. The upper portion of
the vineyard was planted in 1985 and 1986 to Merlot and more
Cabernet Sauvignon. Recently, three new blocks of Cabernet
Sauvignon have been planted as well as two blocks of Cabernet
Franc and one block of Petit Verdot. The two soil profiles are
Pleasanton loam and Aiken loam. Madrona Ranch wines are a
blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with accents of
Merlot and Petit Verdot. The first release from Madrona Ranch
was the 1987 vintage.
Thorevilos - Planted in
1990, Thorevilos is located in the eastern hills of Saint
Helena just below Howell Mountain. The Merlot, Cabernet Franc,
and Petit Verdot are at the base of the vineyard while the
Cabernet Sauvignon stretches up the steep western facing
slopes of the vineyard. The uniqueness of this site is the
white tufa rock soils which are very well-drained and mineral
rich. Coupled with the microclimate, the very unique character
of the wine can only be described as Thorevilos. The first
release from Thorevilos was the 2000 vintage.
