Chateau Latour
(Wines):
The Grand Vin is producted from 47 hectares of old
vines surrounding the main Chateau. Some of the vines date
back more than 100 years. The Grand Vin is aged in new oak
barrels for 18 months, and is made up of the grape varieties,
75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1%
Petit Verdot.
Les Forts de Latour is produced from vines 12 years or
younger in the 47 hectares surrounding the main Chateau, as
well as from grapes produced in three plots outside the main
vineyard. Depending on the quality of grapes produced for the
Grand Vin, some portion may be demoted to Les Forts de Latour.
Aging occurs in 50% new barrels and 50% one vintage barrels
for 18 months. The grape varieties used in the Les Forts de
Latour are approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot
varying slightly from year to year.
The Pauillac - Appearing first in the 1973 Vintage,
The Pauillac is made from grapes not meeting the quality
standards of the Les Forts de Latour. It is generally produced
from the youngest vines in the three plots outside the 47
hectares surround the main Chateau.
