The 1999 Gravelly Meadow exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of blackcurrants, cherries, tobacco, and subtle oak. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with excellent concentration, ripe tannin, and good underlying acidity. There is a sense of balance and restraint in this vintage compared to some of the more powerful recent years. The wine is structured but not hard, and it should continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
